Matt Katz-Bohen is an American musician. While he is the keyboardist and guitarist of Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum, he is best known for his work in Blondie.
Early Life
Matthew Jeremy Katz-Bohen is a New York City native. He began playing piano at age seven, and throughout his childhood he also learned to play the cello, violin, and guitar. He later attended New York City's LaGuardia High School. [1]
Career
Daddy
With his future wife, Laurel Barclay, Katz-Bohen co-founded Variety City in 1996. The band changed its name to Daddy in 1999, at which point the band consisted of Katz-Bohen, Barclay, James Caputo, and Ben Ritter. Daddy was featured in various New York City magazines and outlets during their time together, among them Village Voice, Interview Magazine, and Paper Magazine.
GoonSquad
Katz-Bohen co-founded GoonSquad alongside Barclay and Guy Furrow (otherwise known as Miss Guy) in 2006. The band was active until 2010.
Blondie
In 2008, Katz-Bohen was invited to play keyboards with Blondie on their Parallel Lines 30th Anniversary tour after meeting Debbie Harry. Katz-Bohen has performed in dozens of countries with Blondie since his first tour with them and has written and produced a number of songs for them, including "A Rose by Any Name," "Wipe Off My Sweat," and "Put Some Color on You."
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Between 2015 and 2017, Katz-Bohen was the substitute musical director for the Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He played the keyboard and guitar during his time in the production. During the show's national tour between 2016 and 2017, Katz-Bohen assumed the position of associate conductor.
Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum
Katz-Bohen co-founded Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum alongside his bandmates, Michael C. Hall and Peter Yanowitz. The band made their public debut in 2018 and began releasing music in late 2019. As of 2020, the band is unsigned and has performed exclusively in New York City, though the trio hopes to expand the scope of their performance locations in the near future. His daughter came up with the name of her father's band.
